Are you one of those people who can’t get enough of home design shows? Well we are too and we want you to be able to transform your home into a beautifully designed space that you’ll love. It’s not always the expensive furniture that makes designer rooms look so great; it’s the small touches that transform a room.
First off designers will look for a focal point to build the room off of. Choose a focal point whether it be a great view out the window, a fireplace, a piece of furniture or even a piece of art. Base the room around this piece for an eye catching space.
Balance is also important to keep a room from feeling like something is missing. Use the general rule of three’s. Accessories and home accents look better in three’s and of different heights/sizes. Another good rule is to not overstuff and clutter a room.
Color can be tough to decide on especially the wall color. Save painting the walls for last after you pick out your furniture and accents. It is a lot easier to change your mind about something you can return than the color of your walls. If you cannot decide on color, embrace neutrals. You can never go wrong with a neutral color palate as you can always add in pops of color with accessories.
Layer your room with different textures. Starting with the floor you could add an area rug to give the room a base. Add texture to the room by filling it with different fabrics on the furniture, on the window treatments, and on the accents like pillows and blankets. Texture will add depth to your room making it pleasing to the eye.
Lastly don’t forget to light up the room. Don’t rely just on the one overhead light. Layer lighting where you may need it such as on a table. As a general rule you want to light at least three of the four corners of the room.
