1amcooks-lasagnaIn honor of last Wednesday being National Lasagna Day, here is a family recipe from the 1st Advantage Mortgage office on how to prepare the best lasagna.


  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 2 cloves garlic, chopped (or 1/2 tsp powder)
  • 6 oz can tomato paste
  • 2-1/2 cup canned tomatoes
  • 1 tsp oregano
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 8 oz package wide noodles
  • 1-1/2 cup Swiss cheese – cut-up
  • 12 oz carton cottage cheese


Step 1: Set the oven to 350.

Step 2: Brown the ground beef and chopped garlic in a frying pan.

Step 3: Thoroughly drain the canned tomatoes so that the dish isn’t too runny. Add tomato paste, canned tomatoes, oregano, and pepper to the meat. Simmer for 20 minutes.

Step 4: While the meat sauce is simmering, cook wide noodles according to directions on package.

Step 5: In 1 or 2 oblong dishes, alternate layers of cooked noodles, Swiss cheese, cottage cheese and meat sauce.

Step 6: Bake 20-30 minutes. Let sit for 5 minutes so you don’t burn your tongue.

This dish is best enjoyed with grated Parmesan cheese. And like chili, it tastes even better for leftovers, if there are any. Hope you enjoy and let us know what else you would like to try.
