how-to-clean-a-mattressIf you’re looking to do a seasonal deep clean, don’t forget about your mattress. While it may not be the first thing you think to do, plenty of allergy aggravating particles can get stuck in the mattress. Put sleepless nights to rest by following these steps.

Supplies: Vacuum, Baking Soda, Salt, Water, Hair Dryer or Fan, Hydrogen Peroxide, Toothbrush

Start by removing all bedding. Vacuum the mattress thoroughly to get into all the crevices.

You can choose to skip this step if your mattress doesn’t need any spot cleaning.
If you have a stain that is oil, grease, food or chocolate, make a mixture of baking soda, salt and water. Cover the stain and after half an hour, brush off the paste. Wipe any leftover residue with cold water and dry with either a hair dryer or fan. If you have a stain that is crayon, beverage, blood or urine then you’ll want to use a diluted hydrogen peroxide solution. Dab the area with the solution and brush with a soft-bristle toothbrush. Let the area dry and then repeat.

To deodorize your mattress, sprinkle baking soda. Vacuum up the baking soda after a few hours.

Flip your mattress and repeat step 3.
