how-to-clean-a-shower-curtainShower curtains can quickly become breeding grounds for bacteria, mildew and soap scum. Keep germs at bay with these tips on how to keep it clean.

Supplies: Baking Soda, Vinegar, Bleach

If your shower curtain is relatively clean, you may only need to clean with some baking soda and vinegar. Start by placing your shower curtain into the washing machine with a few used towels. Add in your detergent and a half cup of baking soda. When everything is about to be rinsed, add in a half cup of vinegar. Once rinsed, take a look and see if you need to repeat this cycle again.

If your shower curtain is covered with tons of mildew and soap scum, you may need to use some bleach. Repeat the same steps above, but with white towels so you don’t cause any damage to colored ones. When the washing cycle begins, pour in a half cup of bleach and a quarter cup of detergent. Before the spin cycle starts, pull your curtain out and see if you need to repeat the steps above.

As a general rule, make sure you spray your shower curtain down regularly with a homemade or store bought cleaner. This way, it will continuously clean each time you shower. Also, be sure to scrub your curtain down during your weekly or bi-weekly cleaning routine.
