how-to-make-your-own-drain-cleanerA clogged drain or sink can cause a mess, but you don’t have to spend a lot of money on an expensive, chemical-filled product. Follow these easy steps and make your own mixture to help break up that build-up!

Supplies: Bucket, paper towels, 1/2 cup baking soda, 1/2 cup salt, 1/8 cup cream of tartar, 1 mason jar, 2 cups boiling water and rubber gloves

Step 1: First, check to see if you have any left over water in your drain. If you do, use your bucket to scoop it out. You’ll want to then take the drain cover off and clean around the inside edges to get rid of any built up gunk.

Step 2: Create your drain cleaning mixture by combining the baking soda, salt and cream of tartar in a mason jar. Shake the ingredients up and pour half down the drain. You can save the remaining mixture to use another time.

Step 3: Boil two cups of water and pour it down the drain. Let it sit for about an hour.

Step 4: Rinse the drain with more water. If there is any residue left over, wipe away with a paper towel.
