1amvolunteers-melissa-kaneMelissa Kane is a loan officer at our downtown Chicago, IL office and a proud mother of two daughters, a 1st and 3rd grader both attending Alexander Hamilton Elementary. Ever since her eldest daughter began kindergarten, Melissa began devoting her spare time to volunteering for her daughters’ school in multiple facets.

In addition to helping out with various classroom parties, projects and field trips, Melissa is also a member of the parent fundraising group called Hamilton Action Team (HAT), which organizes events such as the annual walk-a-thon, Patriot’s Ball and organizing a fall Pumpkin Patch at the school. As a result, she has helped make improvements to the school including, buying playground equipment (helping to double it in size), building a turf field for athletics, adding a learning garden, funding scholarships for two graduates a year so they can buy a computer for high school, and buying sound and lighting equipment for fine arts productions. Other major HAT achievements include funding a technology consultant for the 2015-2016 school year and establishing the first Maker Lab in a CPS elementary school.

Melissa spends time each week reading to her children’s classes and making sure the library stays organized. She is also a member of the Service Committee, which organizes a coat drive in the fall and a food drive in January to benefit Common Pantry. The Service Committee also works to support a sister school in an underprivileged area on improving their outdoor space.

Melissa also helps out with Concierge Day at her children’s school. Once a quarter, Melissa and other parents meet to assist teachers with certain projects. The parents camp out in the library and do laminating, cutting, copying and more to help the teachers prepare for their classes.

As if that weren’t enough, Melissa has also been a Daisy leader for the school’s Girl Scouts for the past four years and still finds time to be a successful loan officer!

Melissa’s dedication in improving the future of our youth is incredibly inspiring! To learn more about Alexander Hamilton Elementary, visit http://www.hamiltoncps.org/ or contact Melissa Kane at melissa.kane@dkmortgage.com.
