We all have our own guilty pleasures when it comes to food, but individuals with food allergies may never get the chance to indulge in such things. Gluten is a particularly popular food allergy that affects many people – some have given up gluten simply as a health precaution or weight loss tactic. Whatever your anti-gluten reasoning is, you’ll be thrilled to learn you can still enjoy many of the same foods with a few minor tweaks to the ingredients.

- 1?4 cup gluten-free flour, mix
- 2 cups dry gluten-free breadcrumbs (plain or unflavored)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon dried parsley flakes
- 3?4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1?2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1?2 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1?4 teaspoon dried basil
- 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 3 large eggs
- 1 1?2 tablespoons milk
- 1 lb mozzarella string cheese, each stick cut in half
- canola oil, for frying
- 1 cup jarred marinara sauce
Step 1: Heat 1 cup of canola oil in a pan. In a separate small pot, heat the marinara sauce on low (or use a microwave).
Step 2: Whisk eggs and milk together in a bowl. In a second bowl, combine bread crumbs with parsley flakes, garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, basil, salt and pepper. Place flour in a third bowl.
Step 3: Coat each piece of cheese with flour, then dip in egg and roll in bread crumbs.
Step 4: Place each cheese stick in the hot oil with cooking tongs and cook until golden brown, about one minute per side. Place on paper towels to absorb excess oil and serve hot.
