Unfortunately, stress is a part of life that can’t always be avoided. But lucky for you, there are lots of fun and creative ways of dealing with stress. Research shows that arts and crafts projects are proven methods for decreasing cortisol levels in the brain (the stress hormone), so why not take it a step further and create your very own stress ball? All you need are a few common household items.
- 2 Latex party balloons
Step 1: Inflate one of the balloons fully to help stretch it out, then let the air out of the balloon.
Step 2: With your funnel, fill the balloon with flour until it reaches the neck. Leave the neck empty. Tie the neck of the balloon into a knot to keep the flour from spilling out.
Step 3: Take another balloon and cut most of the neck off with scissors. Stretch the second balloon over the first one as a second layer to help prevent the flour from leaking in case a hole would appear.
That’s all there is to it! Your stress ball is ready to be put the test. If you’re feeling creative, you can even draw a face on your new stress ball with a permanent marker for added amusement – maybe even make a whole set of characters to sit on your desk!
