1amvolunteers-kevin-braudeKevin Braude, Loan Officer and Vice President of Sales here at 1st Advantage Mortgage, is not only passionate about helping families find homes – he’s also an active supporter in the fight against pancreatic cancer. As President of the Rolfe Pancreatic Cancer Foundation, Kevin is determined to help put a stop to this grim disease once and for all.

Kevin first became involved with the foundation as a board member after his father was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2003. He decided to take action in hopes of raising awareness and finding early detection tests for the disease, which is the third leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the United States. Although he knew that his efforts would not be able to directly influence his father’s outcome with the disease, it was important to Kevin to do everything in his power to help make a difference for other families that may be at risk for pancreatic cancer.

The foundation has three main goals: to advance the development of early detection, fund medical research at leading clinical and academic centers and provide resources for pancreatic cancer patients and their loved ones. Kevin plays an active role in raising awareness through organizing, hosting and attending events for the foundation as well as collecting and making personal donations. Kevin says, “There’s a lot of hope going on right now because of institutions that are looking at the research,” including the University of Chicago and Johns Hopkins University. Since early detection is key in the fight against pancreatic cancer, finding an accurate early detection test is imperative, and Kevin will stop at nothing to help find a solution. In the foundation’s efforts to help fund medical research, yearly grants are awarded to various organizations supporting both scientific research and patient and family services.
