Beat the summer heat with this refreshing cocktail! Sweet strawberries and fragrant basil are the perfect compliments to this grown-up version of lemonade. Perfect for any party or small gathering, your guests will be begging you for the recipe!

Servings: 8

  • 1 pound strawberries
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup bourbon
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 cup ice-cold water
  • 1/2 cup fresh lemon juice
  • 1 ounce bitters
  • 12 basil leaves
  • 8 basil sprigs

Step 1: Place strawberries and 1/4 cup water in a blender or food processor, and pulse until pureed. In a medium saucepan over medium-high heat, add the strawberry puree and 1 3/4 cups water, and heat until the mixture just begins to boil, about 5 to 10 minutes. Add sugar and stir until dissolved. Remove the syrup from the heat and allow it to cool completely, about 30 minutes.

Step 2: Strain the syrup through a fine mesh sieve and discard the solids. Chill for at least one hour.

Step 3: In a large pitcher, combine the syrup, bourbon, ice-cold water, lemon juice and bitters, and then stir for one minute. Add the basil leaves, and stir to combine. Strain into eight tall glasses filled with ice. Garnish each glass with a basil sprig.
